ScoutTract runs as an app on your phone: full-screen maps, your location, saved offline map areas and field notes with photos that sync when you are back online. It installs straight from this page in about 20 seconds.

Open ScoutTract in the browser

ANDROID · APP DOWNLOAD

Install the Android app

  1. Tap Download the Android app (APK) above. If Chrome says the file might be harmful, tap Download anyway.
  2. Open the file: tap Open when the download finishes, or find ScoutTract.apk in Files → Downloads.
  3. If Android asks, tap Settings and turn on Allow from this source (Install unknown apps) for Chrome or the browser you used, then go back.
  4. Tap Install. If Google Play Protect asks about an unknown app, choose More details → Install anyway.
  5. Open ScoutTract and sign in with your invite: tap the link in your invite email (it opens in the app), or sign in with your email and password.

The app is coming soon to Google Play. Until then, install new versions from this page; your account and saved data stay put.

Or: Add to Home screen

No download needed: install the web app straight from Chrome instead.

  1. Open this page in Chrome on your Android phone (the link from your text or email opens it).
  2. Tap Install app above if you see it. Otherwise tap the ⋮ menu at the top right of Chrome.
  3. Tap Install app. On some phones it says Add to Home screen, then choose Install.
  4. The ScoutTract icon appears on your home screen and in the app drawer. Open it and sign in.
  5. When asked, tap Allow for location (for “Locate me” and field notes). Camera access is requested only when you add a photo.

Samsung Internet: tap ≡ then Add page to → Home screen. Firefox: ⋮ → Install.

IPHONE / IPAD · SAFARI

Add to Home Screen

  1. Open this page in Safari (if the link opened in another app, tap its menu and choose Open in Safari).
  2. Tap the Share button ⬆︎ at the bottom of the screen (on iPad it is at the top right).
  3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen. If you don't see it, tap Edit Actions and add it.
  4. Tap Add. Open ScoutTract from the new icon on your home screen and sign in.
  5. When asked, tap Allow for location so “Locate me” works.
