ScoutTract SMS Terms
Programs operated by Mike Lang (ScoutTract), a sole proprietor. ScoutTract (https://scouttract.com) sends texts in two programs: ScoutTract App Link and Emergency contact safety alerts. The cost, opt-out, help, carrier and privacy terms below apply to both.
ScoutTract App Link — Program description
The ScoutTract App Link program sends transactional text messages of three kinds: (1) a personal invitation link from a ScoutTract user to a person who agreed to receive it, (2) a one-time code that confirms a signed-in user's own mobile number, and (3) a link to install the ScoutTract app, sent to that confirmed number when the user taps Text me the app. Users opt in by entering their own number in Settings and ticking a consent box; senders of invitations must confirm the invitee agreed before each message. No marketing messages are sent, and trial reminders are sent by email only, never by text.
Sample messages
“[Inviter name] invited you to ScoutTract: https://scouttract.com/j/[invite-code] Msg&data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out.”
“ScoutTract code: 123456. It confirms this number for app links. Expires in 10 min. Msg&data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out.”
“ScoutTract: here's the app link you asked for: https://scouttract.com/install Open it on this phone, then Add to Home Screen. Msg&data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out.”
Message frequency
Message frequency varies; one message per request. A number receives at most 4 messages per day (at most 3 app links), and usually only one or two ever. A number can receive only one pending invitation at a time.
Emergency contact safety alerts — Program description
A ScoutTract user can save emergency contacts (name, mobile number and optional email) in their Profile. If that user misses a scheduled safety check-in, or the app detects a crash or fall (tree stand, biking, ATV/UTV or off-road) and the user does not cancel it, ScoutTract texts the emergency contact the user's name, last known location (map link and coordinates) and the time of that location, their party members and a private live track link, so the contact can check on them. These are transactional safety messages only; no marketing is ever sent.
How consent works
- The user saves the contact (name, mobile number, optional email) in Profile → Emergency contacts and must tick a required box that starts unticked: “I confirm this person agreed to receive ScoutTract safety alert texts at this number. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out. See SMS Terms and Privacy.” The contact can't be saved without it.
- The user privately shares a one-time confirmation link with the contact, through a channel the user chooses. ScoutTract does not text or email the contact before they agree.
- The contact opens the link and sees what they will receive, how often, that message and data rates may apply, HELP/STOP instructions and links to these Terms and the Privacy Policy. They must tick an unticked I agree box with this text: “I agree to receive ScoutTract safety texts and optional email as this user's emergency contact, including their location and private live link after an SOS or uncancelled crash alert. Frequency varies by incident. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop texts, HELP for help. Consent is not a condition of purchase. ScoutTract is not a substitute for 911.” and then press a separate Confirm button. Opening or previewing the link does not confirm anything.
- Confirmation links expire after 24 hours, work once, and stop working if the contact's phone number or email address changes.
- Alerts are sent only after the contact confirms. Until then the user's Profile shows Waiting for them to accept; afterwards it shows Verified — they accepted.
- While waiting, the user can tap Share confirmation link again (a new link replaces the old one). The user can change the contact — a new number or email needs a fresh acceptance — or remove the contact at any time.
- Contacts who confirmed under the earlier text-reply process must confirm again through a one-time link before the alerts described here apply to them.

Sample messages
Alert (missed check-in): “ScoutTract safety alert: [Name] missed a scheduled check-in at 4:30 PM CST. Last known location: https://maps.google.com/?q=46.81230,-100.78340 (46.81230,-100.78340) at 3:12 PM CST (18 min ago). You are listed as their emergency contact. Party: Sam, Jo. Live track: https://scouttract.com/hunt/track/abc123 Try to reach them; if you can't, call 911. Reply STOP to opt out.”
Reminder (every 30 minutes, at most 2, until the user checks in or the alert is resolved): “Reminder 2 of 3: ScoutTract safety alert: [Name] missed a scheduled check-in at 4:30 PM CST. … Party: Sam, Jo. Live track: https://scouttract.com/hunt/track/abc123 …”
Alert (crash or fall detected and not cancelled): “ScoutTract EMERGENCY: [Name]'s phone detected a possible fall from a tree stand at 3:40 PM CST and they did not answer a 60-second alarm. GPS 46.81230,-100.78340 at 3:40 PM CST (just now): https://maps.google.com/?q=46.81230,-100.78340 Party: Sam, Jo. Live track: https://scouttract.com/hunt/track/abc123 Try calling [Name]. If you can't reach them, call 911 with this location. Reply STOP to opt out.”
Follow-up: “ScoutTract: [Name] checked in and marked themselves safe at 5:05 PM. No action needed. Reply STOP to opt out.”
Message frequency
Message frequency varies. A contact receives no texts until they accept the confirmation link. After that, texts are sent only when the user misses a check-in or a crash or fall is detected and not cancelled: up to 3 texts per incident (the first alert plus up to 2 reminders, 30 minutes apart, until the user checks in or the alert is resolved), plus at most one follow-up when the user checks in or is marked safe. Most contacts receive no alerts at all.
ScoutTract is not an emergency service. Texts depend on cell coverage and carriers and may be delayed or not delivered. In an emergency, call 911.
Costs
Message and data rates may apply. ScoutTract does not charge for these messages. Consent is not a condition of purchase.
Opt out and help
Reply STOP to stop all messages from either program; you will receive one confirmation and nothing more. Reply START to opt back in (an emergency contact who opts back in must accept a new confirmation link before alerts resume). Reply HELP for help, or contact catchall@scouttract.com.
Carriers
Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Privacy
See the Privacy Policy. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile numbers and SMS opt-in consent are never sold or shared for marketing.
